The June issue of Rail Express has been in the shops for a good few days now and is very highly recommended indeed. The Rail Express Modeller supplement features much of interest to the D&E modeller, including Trevor Hale's most excellent Grangetown layout - more Scottish than a 21 year old malt. If this isn't a magazine you already buy then I'd suggest you try the latest issue, as the modelling section always includes at least as much D&E content as any of the monthly comics. In fact, if you look at quality content (discounting assorted toadying, filler and intentionally deceitful 'reviews') then I'd say Rail Express normally carries more than all of the others combined. Plus the rest of the mag is full of top quality prototype photos (essential for modellers) rather than narrow-gauge, white-metal kettles and collecting articles. In short, a magazine where the world didn't stop in the 1960s.

On a related note, the annual 'Showcase' exhibition of Diesel & Electric modelling takes place on Saturday 5th June at Burton-Upon-Trent Town Hall, presented by the DEMU society and sponsored by Rail Express. Fairly centrally located within spitting distance of Burton station (see map) and with ample free parking on site, the show is open from 10.00 to 16:30 and it costs a modest £3.00 to get in - or a mere quid for DEMU members.

Having attended this event regularly since returning to UK modelling some years ago, I'd say if you only go to one exhibition per year then this is the one it should be. Layouts attending are:
